At Bordertown Basketball we want to teach basic fundamentals and skill concepts of the sport, while maintaining an exciting and fun open-learning atmosphere, within our two age groups. For the first age group (Co-Ed Boys/Girls ages 7-10) our main focus is building relationships, developing strong self-esteem and focusing less on winning, losing, and scoring. We will introduce the simple rules and ethics of the sport, such as tactics, basic rules, ethics and decision making skills. With 70% of our session time working on skill development which includes, hand speed, foot speed, coordination, balance, strength, endurance and flexibility through fun activities. Our remaining 30% of the session will be spent in a game type setting to help apply what the children are learning in a competitive environment.

For Bordertown Basketball’s older age group (Co-Ed Boys/Girls ages 11 – 15) competitive practices, up-tempo drills and scrimmages to challenge the children will be applied. Strength and conditioning will be a main point for this age group, as they are also in a major growth development stage. We will focus on teaching children how to read and react according to a game situation, and how to think one step ahead of the game, whether on offence or defence. With 60% of session time spent on practicing skills and going through skill concepts to help their further development. While, the remaining 40% of the session time will be spent on competition, for the children to work on applying the skills they have learned in a competitive game type setting
